ABOUT THE ENDOWMENT
In 2019, Dr. Pat Golemon’s family and friends approached University of Houston-Downtown to establish a memorial scholarship in her memory. We agreed to build a PERMANENT endowment; our intent is to continue the work of Dr. Golemon during her career as an academic at the University of Houston-Downtown, teaching students just not communications theories and practices but about “real-world” applications of the skills they were learning.
Pat’s successful and varied career in business and industry gave her a unique point of view on communications in corporate and business settings. She knew that students with strong communication skills could better succeed in their chosen fields.

Our goal is an annual scholarship to provide students -- especially those non-traditional students Pat felt so drawn to -- with an extra opportunity to pursue their educations.

A scholarship will be awarded once per academic year to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking student in good standing at the University of Houston-Downtown. The student should be pursuing a degree in English, Communication Studies, or Technical Communication and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The recipient(s) of the scholarship will be determined by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Scholarship Selection Committee based on consideration of GPA, a writing sample, and any other materials requested by the CHSS Scholarship Selection Committee to determine which candidates have the strongest potential for academic success.
